April is National Kite Month. It's a time to celebrate the joy of kite flying and
share this activity with others. The first day of National Kite Month is April 2,
2025. Here's why April is a great time to celebrate kite flying:
Springtime Celebrations
April marks the beginning of spring, when weather conditions are often more
suitable for kite flying. Edgewood Elementary School art students learned about
weather forecasts and how weather affects their kite-flying success. Edgewood
Elementary School art teacher Ms. McDonald demonstrated the project by
assembling a kite and showing the students how each part works. The art students
designed their kites using polyester fabric, watercolor markers, paintbrushes, and
water. Ms. McDonald encouraged the students to create beautiful kite designs as a
collaborative project. Students anxiously took their kites outside during art class
the following week and began kite-flying lessons. The art class enjoyed this project
by learning how functional art, science, and GT (Gifted and Talented) design
standards work together to create fun outdoor activities.
